2018 Rule Changes
(from Jim Hanley)
- There will no longer be acceleration/international zones in USATF and International Relays. (Instead, runners must be stationed entirely inside a 30 meter take-over zone and batons must be passed entirely within the same 30 meter zone.) See diagrams explaining the high school and college relay markings as well as the new IAAF and USATF relay rules: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx_ooaZmRzgPa1ZpUGpmbW5LbG5CZzUzUXVILWczR0o3OFBz/view?usp=sharing
- Race walkers who receive three red cards, will now serve time in a pit lane (penalty box).
- The field event time limit will now be 30 seconds—even in the high jump—after a competitor’s name is called. Youth Athletics still has one minute when there are 3 or more competitors at the start of a round.
- Rotational throwers will now be allowed to touch the top of the circle in certain circumstances without receiving a foot foul.
