While a new USATF organization, Club Ed Running has consistently yielded some of the best scores in the 2010 Road Running Grand Prix, with an age-graded average score of 85.4%. The solid consistency of Club Ed Running team members Alison Atkinson (F-43), Nathalie Higley (F-40), Jon Megeff (M-47) and Rich Gust (M-51) proved insurmountable to second place finishers The Janes Elite Racing and third place finishers (and 2009 Champions) Track Club L.A. Following the Santa Clarita Half Marathon, Club Ed Running led by more than 800 points. An outstanding performance at the Dana Point Turkey Trot 10K by The Janes Elite Racing only narrowed Club Ed’s lead to 348 points, making Club Ed Running the undisputed 2010 Road Running Grand Prix Champions.

Don’t miss out on your chance to get in one of the 2011 Honda LA Marathon Presented by K-Swiss Seeded Corrals! New Course Details!

Seeded Start Corrals A, B, C are secure start areas designed to offer a quicker and smoother start for all qualified marathon runners. Assignment to Seeded Start Corrals is based on a submitted qualifying time run in a recent marathon and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The LA Marathon is also implementing Wave Starts this year and the Seeded Corrals will make up Wave 1. Space is still available, but you must register and provide proof of a qualifying marathon time before January 1, 2011 at 11:59pm!

To submit application for placement in the sub-3, sub-4 or sub-5 hour Corrals, enter the race name, date, and qualifying time in the appropriate location with your online marathon entry and the marathon office will verify authenticity. If you run a faster marathon after registering for the 2011 Honda LA Marathon, you can send proof of this finish to 310.271.7202 (fax) or [email protected]. Corral requests must be received by January 1, 2011.

  • Corral A = Sub – 3 hour
  • Corral B = Sub – 4 hour
  • Corral C = Sub – 5 hour

New Course Details: One of the world’s greatest marathon routes just got a little better. The 2011 Honda LA Marathon Presented by K-Swiss will once again start at Dodger Stadium and finish on Ocean Avenue, just steps from the Santa Monica Pier. Along the way, runners will pass all of the great landmarks of the 2010 race – along with a few new ones, including Chinatown and Little Tokyo. Get all the details here and make sure to watch the new animated course video.

    USATF Post Collegiate Scholarship Fund

    October 14, 2010 by webmaster

The Post Collegiate Scholarship Fund is part of USATF’s effort to bridge the “developmental gap” that occurs in the year(s) immediately following an athlete’s graduation.

To qualify for this program, athletes must have exhausted their collegiate eligibility within the last two years (2009/2010) and have achieved the current IAAF World Outdoor Championship “A” standard (view standards below) at the time of application.  Further, and to determine levels of funding in the program, each athlete will be “graded” according to world ranking, finish at the US National Championships and top performances.  Stipend amounts range from $6,000 – $1,000 depending on the number of athletes that qualify for the PCSF program.

Athletes qualified for the program are required to attend the Emerging Elite Athlete Symposium (i.e. “Rookie Camp”) conducted by USATF each year during its early December Annual Meeting.  The symposium features seminars on such topics as drug testing, life as an Elite Athlete, USOC/USATF support programs, media training, etc.  Qualified athletes please click on the following link to download the application.

    SCA Quarterly Newsletter: FINISH LINE

    September 8, 2010 by webmaster

    A Message From Our President

Welcome to the USA Track & Field Southern California Association FINISH LINE! This newsletter is an opportunity for the board members to provide the membership with a vehicle to communicate what is going on inside the association. The association is performing well financially in 2010. Our strong financial performance is the result of a lot of hard work by our members and has allowed us to continue to grow and expand the services we provide to our members.

The USATF National Office has developed association performance standards this year and it is our goal to meet and/or exceed these operational guidelines. These standards include: the SCA website; compliance with IRS/CA non-profit rules; posting of our financial status on the website; and financial stability. Some of the new association rules will result inchanges in how we run the office. Please bear with us as we adjust our operational procedures.

These changes will allow us to improve our operation and minimize the potential for an audit/penalties by the nationaloffice and/or the IRS. It is the Board of Director’s fiduciary responsibility to insure that where operational weaknesses exist, we make the necessary changes to correct identified deficiencies.  We have discussed several opportunities for giving back to our members and more information will be forthcoming in this area. These discussions have included: stipends for Open Athletics Athletes; facility use agreement with Youth Athletics, and updating the office equipment to allow us to perform more efficiently.

We welcome your thoughts and/or suggestions.
