INDIANAPOLIS — USATF’s 42nd Annual meeting will be held virtually, USATF announced today. The annual meeting of the sports administrators, coaches, volunteers and athletes is set for December 3-6. Additional details will be forthcoming.

“It became clear to us that a virtual version of the USATF Annual meeting had to be made a reality,” said USATF CEO Max Siegel. “Taking the safety and well-being of our constituents into account, as well as the guidance of our COVID-19 working group, this is the best option to serve our members.”

A full schedule and further details for the 2020 meeting will be available soon.

The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation will continue to raise funds through Sept. 30. Athletes will be notified of their submission status and receive direct deposit payments by the end of October.

Eligibility:

Team USA athletes must fulfill the below eligibility requirements to receive funding.

  • Athletes are currently training and in contention to represent the U.S. at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 or the Olympic and Paralympic Games Beijing 2022. Retired athletes are not eligible for this fund.

  • Athletes are not under a suspension or period of ineligibility—temporarily or otherwise—from USADA, the U.S. Center for SafeSport, the USOPC, an NGB, a High Performance Management Organization or an International Federation.

Please submit the completed form by 11:59 p.m. MT on Oct. 1:

  • You can access the submission form here. For the best experience, complete this form using a laptop or tablet.

Emergency Resolution – Members Vote by Aug 20 at 6pm

August 6, 2020 by webmaster

The following is a suggested protocol from the National Office to address USATF Association Annual Meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Consider delaying elections until your annual meeting in 2021. If you have an officer or committee chair who decides not to continue, your by-laws and/or committee operation procedures should detail how to fill resignations. The SCA Board supports the following emergency resolution language to remedy the current situation:

Re: 2020 Annual Meeting Elections
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SCA USATF Board of Directors voted to support the following Emergency Resolution:

WHEREAS, due to state and local mandates and emergency circumstances precipitated by the Covid-19 pandemic, SCA USATF will be unable to conduct its elections at its 2020 Annual Meeting as prescribed by its bylaws. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the membership hereby extends the terms of all officers, board members, and other elected positions up for election at the 2020 Annual Meeting to the 2021 Annual Meeting, at which time elections shall take place for these positions. The terms of all persons elected in 2021 under this resolution shall be calculated as if they commenced at the 2020 Annual Meeting.

All SCA members 18 years and older should have received an email to vote on this resolution. We are hopeful and looking forward to hosting competitions in the near future. We value our members and look forward to serving you.

USATF So Cal Youth Track & Field Season Canceled

April 13, 2020 by webmaster

Hi Everyone,

I hope this email finds you all healthy and well.

Every year for decades, USATF Southern California looks forward to the track season and providing an opportunity for kids to not only showcase their talent but also inspire them to chase their dreams. We approached the 2020 track season with the same excitement and anticipation. But given the concerns around COVID-19, we’ve been forced to make an extremely difficult decision to cancel all remaining USATF So Cal meets for the 2020 season after USATF Hershey National JO Track & Field Championships was canceled earlier this week.

This decision did not come lightly and was a tough call to make. We explored every avenue possible to salvage the season, but with no access to facilities for practices and or meets and our desire to make the health and safety of all of our athletes, families and supporters a priority – this was the only plausible outcome.

For those interested there is one remaining track meet in Southern California; the California State Games, slated to start July 17th in San Diego. A link to the website is below. Meet organizers are closely following COVID-19 and will provide updates accordingly: https://www.calstategames.org/

The USATF Youth Outdoor Championships scheduled for June 23rd-28th in Miramar, Florida have been canceled.

We know the decision to cancel all remaining USATF So Cal meets adds another layer of emotions during an already uncertain time and we are here with any questions you might have. Please continue to stay healthy and safe. Please continue to follow all local and national guidelines set for COVID-19.

We look forward to seeing you all for Cross Country Season this fall and for the 2021 Track Season.

Regards,

USATF So Cal Youth Committee

UPDATE: Cancellation of USATF So Cal Youth Meets thru Apr

April 1, 2020 by webmaster

Greetings All,

I am sending this email in response to the current situation regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic. To ease your mind and get the latest updates from USATF you should check those USATF Daily Clips that are sent out regularly via email to members of USATF.

Nationally there has been suspension of all USATF Championship events for 30 days. Locally we have canceled the upcoming:

  • Pacific Coast Shockwaves meet on 3/21
  • Los Angeles Jets Relay Carnival on 3/28
  • Chino Pumas on 4/3
  • Pasadena Running Roses on 4/11
  • Imani Speed City on 4/18-19
  • Long Beach Sprinters on 4/25-26

We will re-evaluate the remaining meets as we get closer, or if a hosting club informs us that they have chosen not to host. We will also cancel the Southern California Youth Committee meeting scheduled for this evening.

If event organizers choose to cancel their event entirely, please visit this link. Event organizers can log into their event management page using their event ID and password. Once in the event management page, you can submit a request for a cancellation refund by clicking on “Cancel Event”.

For athletes/clubs who continue to train in a communal setting, follow proper hygiene practices to minimize chances of infection:

  • If you are sick, STAY HOME.
  • Follow latest guidance of no groups larger than 10 people through March 30.
  • If at all possible, use “social distancing” to stay at least 6 feet from other individuals. If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth using tissue, or your elbow.
  • Wash your hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds using soap and water: upon entering and leaving a workout facility or athletic training room, before eating, after using the restroom, after coughing or sneezing, or after time in a public place. Examples of 20 seconds are to say the alphabet or sing happy birthday twice.

If you choose to continue practicing please keep in mind that if your club uses a facility that is not on your club practice insurance, you are not covered via USATF. Until the next time please take every avenue to stay healthy and do what is right for your athletes.

Make it a great day,

USATF Cancels National Meets for Next 30 Days

March 17, 2020 by webmaster

NEWS – USATF COVID-19 UPDATE – MARCH 17

INDIANAPOLIS — In response to the national outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, USA Track & Field (USATF) will suspend all National meets for the next 30 days.

“Protecting our constituents — athletes, coaches, volunteers and staff — is paramount to our mission,” said USATF CEO Max Siegel. “This is an unprecedented and uncharted time for our country. We will continue to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 virus with local health authorities and our COVID-19 working group and make the best decisions possible.”

USATF Associations should follow the recommendations of their local health authorities when determining whether to proceed with scheduled events. We encourage each Association to err on the side of safety.

Because the situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing, USATF has developed USATF.org/COVID19 to help communicate updated information to athletes, coaches, athlete representatives, event organizers, and members. The page will be updated regularly as new information emerges.

USATF also recently established a Working Group of medical, scientific, and industry experts to advise us on matters related to the coronavirus (COVID-19). This Working Group receives regular updates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and other U.S. professional sports leagues. Dr. Robert Chapman, USATF Director of Sports Science and Medicine is the National Office liaison to the working group.

Cancellation of USATF So Cal Youth March Meets

March 12, 2020 by webmaster

Given the current status of our local, national and international health crisis we will cancel all USATF So Cal Youth meets throughout the month of March. Those meets include the Bay Cities Unleashed All-Comer’s meet that was to be held on 3/14, the Pacific Coast Shockwaves All-Comer’s on 3/21 and the Los Angeles Jets Relay Carnival on 3/28. We will make further determination of what will transpire next month as we get closer to April.

This decision was made partially based on the announcement by our own California Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Public Health Officials. The state’s public health experts have determined that gatherings of 250 or more should be postponed or canceled across the state until at least the end of March. Our Youth meets are well over 250 people.

For the most up to date information on COVID-19 and California’s response, visit the CDPH website.

For further information on slowing the spread of COVID-19 by our California Governor please click here.

When we have more info we will send out notification. Please stay healthy and make good decisions.
